LT TextNova achieves ISO 17100:2015 certification, a FIRST for a Thai-owned translation company. 02/12/2016
Bangkok, Thailand, 1st November 2016 – With more than a decade of experience in the translation industry in Thailand and helmed by one of the most prolific linguists in the nation, LT TextNova Co. Ltd, has achieved yet another first for the land of the smiles by being the FIRST local Thai translation company to be certified with the new ISO 17100:2015 certification.
“First and foremost, we are very happy to announce that we are the first and at the moment, the only Thai-owned translation company to achieve the ISO17100:2015 standard in Thailand.” Said Ms. Ratchanee Pengkaew, the Managing Director of LT TextNova Co., Ltd.
The ISO 17100:2015 which supersedes the European code EN 15038 as the internationally applicable standard for Translation Service Provider (TSPs), specifies detailed requirements for all aspects of the translation process directly affecting the quality and final delivery of the translation services. This includes the provisions for TSPs (Translation Service Providers), to not only fulfil requirements in terms of the minimum qualification, the availability and management of linguistic resources (translators and editors), but also covers the qualification and competency of project managers handling the projects.
In addition, the standard also defines quality assurance, the process of communication between clients and the service providers as well as the process of handling project-related information and the requirements for its security and confidentiality.
This is the first time that an ISO standard addressing transparency of processes in the translation industry for translation companies covering linguistic resources, project managers, project management processes and confidentiality issues is made available.
“Our core strength has always been our ability to produce high quality translation. With that as a claim, it often blurs the line between freelance translators and translation companies.” said Ms. Pengkaew. “But ISO 17100:2015 draws the line. It addresses the importance of translation companies’ roles in the production of high quality translations for their clients in the most transparent way. We have never been just a middleman and the ISO 17100:2015 will define that and gives companies like us the credit we deserve.”
With the barriers to entry to industry being so low, it is very difficult to tell the real deal from those wannabes. This certification will help potential clients understand what it takes to produce high quality translation work and ultimately, enable the clients to make good choices when deciding who to send their translation work to.
